3 Assignment: Storage Devices and Manufacturers
Storage
Hard Drives
Western Digital has been
a manufacturing company of hard drive since 1970. They are now a leading manufacture of internal hard drives, external hard drives,
and also entertainment hard drives. The company keeps up to date with latest
technology along with using the new interface of Super Speed USB 3.0. They have
specialized on the hard drive capacity with a maximum amount of 2 TB space
storage now and the security being are proud of it.
I mostly like their hard
drives. There is no other brand that is as popular as their brand and is that
much high quality. The only other brand that is probably with the same quality
as them but mostly works on internal hard drives instead of external is Fujitsu.
CD/DVD writer/player
Lite On is a world leading corporation
base on Lite-On Taiwan group. They started with
optical disk drives (ODD) during 1995 and decided to dedicate themselves to
high quality CD-ROM drives. They also study in several other
stuff such as LEDs, semiconductors, computer chassis, monitors, motherboards,
DVD & CD devices, and other electronic components. In 2007, they
joined Philips & Lite-On Digital Solutions
(PLDS). They have 29 branches worldwide including one in California.
I am not really an
enthusiast of CD, DVD, and BD drives. The company is widely popular of those
who buy disk drives. I have a DVD R/RW drive of theirs and have not found any
problems.
Flash Memory drive (USB)
SanDisk has been just
around a dozen years for flash memory products. It was founded in 1988 by 1988
by Dr. Eli Harari and Sanjay Mehrotra,
non-volatile memory technology experts. They are known mostly because of the
products they make. They have flash memory for mobile devices such as cell
phones, cameras, music players, computers, gaming, and many other types. The
headquarters is in Milpitas, California.
What I like about SanDisks USB flash drives is how they have a few custom
designs. One design they have that I have found that no other
flash drive manufacture does not have is their ability to make flash
drives with titanium covers. This is useful to me cause
it shows how flash drives can be worth more than just an ordinary flash drive
that you can keep buying for $10. I own one of their titanium 2GB flash drives
and it has never broke even though I have dropped it
on the ground a couple dozen times.
