Meaningful Topics I Learned in CISB11
In CISB11, there are many things
that a regular computer user will learn and use in their daily life. For myself,
there are quite a few things I have learned from this class even though I am an
advanced user of computers.
Microsoft Access has been a mystery
of what uses it may have. The first time I ever had to use Access was during my
programming class of C++. During that time Microsoft Access was used to build a
vector of a library of objects. It is used to group of objects into one vector
and is easier to do on Microsoft Access as a user interface rather than doing
so much coding on Microsoft Visual Studio. It is also used for the user to sort
out types of information and inserting a new object is easier. I may use
Microsoft Access more often later on as I continue with my Computer Engineering
major.
Another thing that we interesting
was Komposer along with Angelfire or the whole idea of creating a webpage. I
have never created a webpage before. Using Angelfire has gotten me the idea of
using it sometimes to post my own wall or calendar using the Angelfire online
server. It can be used for me to post notes to people who don’t like to have
notes e-mailed and like to see them on a website. It can be my future
whiteboard of posting comments or anything I want anybody to see.
Eclipse is one of those composers
that I wonder if it is like Microsoft Visual Studio. If many people knew about
Visual Studio and some programming language, many people could possibly create
their own programs. I would like to check out Eclipse more and see if it is
easier to use than Visual Studio by Microsoft. Hopefully I will find one of
them to be more useful when I get a job in programming in the future making a
simple program into a complicated one.
One very surprising thing I learned
from this class as a discovery was all of the applications that same from
Google. Now I use it as my calendar or my homepage whenever I go onto the web
browser. Google Docs is now my word
document program whenever I am typing homework or notes outside and away from
home and on a different computer that is not my own. The number of apps iGoogle
contains is numerous and countless. I can see news from my tech websites in a
small window right in iGoogle. IGoogle is an online software or program that I
think everybody should know about and I know a lot don’t know about it yet.
There is much that I have learned
about computer from this class. Knowing what many acronyms of computer
technology really means to me a lot since one of my hobby is to learn a lot
about computer hardware and over-clocking those hardware. Although this book
talks most about what’s inside a computer, how a computer works, and what is
the internet, it does not describe much about the “tomorrow” of computers. I
was hoping to hear about things like how computers will be in the future such
as how Intel’s technology of “Light Peak” or silicon photonic technology works
and how Moore’s Law will play many times again during the next decade. There is
an introduction of how Intel’s new technology will bring the bandwidth line of
the future at this link Silicon-Photonics-Laser-Light-Beams.
Overall, I think anybody who went
through this class has learned a lot of useful things in this class, unless
they were already a computer professional or analyst.
